  • Oostburg (Zeeuws-Vlaams: Wòstburg) is a town in the municipality of Sluis, in the Dutch Province of Zeeland. From 1604, the Groote Gat was part of the Linie van Oostburg and today it is a nature reserve, while the remains of the fortresses can still be found here. Once the Groote Gat was part of a more extensive crate system that was directly connected to the Zwin. It formed an extension of the Brugsche Vaart, of which the elongated Brugsche-Vaartpolder (embanked in 1684) to the west of Oostburg still testifies. This is now a golf course. As early as 1652, the Groote Gat was considerably reduced by the construction of the Nieuweveldpolder and, to the east of it, the Sint Philipspolder. This artwork comes with a BARTH 1828 aluminum picture frame and is protected behind glass. Disclaimer: Photographing watercolors is very difficult. It looks like the paper is extremely bumpy, but in reality it is barely visible to the naked eye.
